I started a residential house painting company. I made a ghetto flyer and bought a clipboard for under $50. I went into a neighborhood where people had nice homes that needed painting. I knocked on doors of houses that needed painting and said "I'm Eric with Foothills Painting. I noticed some peeling paint up here on your house so I want to give you a free estimate."
I went to about 250 doors in 6 hours. I had 11 people give me their information to give them an estimate. I called all 11 of those people and scheduled 6 estimates to go and give a bid on painting their house. I ended up closing 5 out of 6 estimates for about $8,000 in revenue in the first week. I took a 25% deposit and earned $2000 in the first 2 weeks. I hired a painter to paint the houses for about $4,000 (materials, labor, supplies all included).
By the end of the first month all 5 jobs were complete and I earned another $2,000. Profited $4,000 in the first month with about 40 hours of work. That was 3 years ago. Now I don't do any marketing, estimates, talk to customers, or talk to painters. We still generate all of our business door-to-door but now we get 100-150 leads every week and will sell about $700,000 this year in residential house painting just in Northern Colorado.
